December 31, 2015

There were some good guesses and one that was very close.  Yesterday's picture resulted from making adjustments on post-processing software.

I took Linda to Woodstock, GA for lunch at a tea room only to have no seating until 4 pm.  We did find a nice sandwich shop as we walked around the downtown area.  There are no shortages of restaurants in Woodstock and, unfortunately, 'drinking holes.'

The picture is part of the decorations on the trees that line the sidewalk.  The first picture is a wide angle shot and the second is a close up.  The third picture, from yesterday, has a black vignette, which was brought right up the the edge of the ornament.

That is me in the center of the ornament taking the picture.  The curvature of the ornament created the fish-eye look.

I have added a few other pictures from our walk-about.

Until next year...

Can you guess what this is?  Click on it to enlarge for a better view.  Did I use a special lens?  Is it trick photography?

What do you think?  If you have an idea, just send me a reply.  I will follow this up on tomorrow.

Do you remember "Turkey in the Straw?'  It is an old American folk song dating from the 19 century.  Well, how about Turkey in a Tree?

I took this picture two years ago in Hill, NH as I drove down a country road.  I had never seen nor heard of this.

Remember to click on the picture to enlarge it.

Added pictures of birds on the feeder today.  Male Cardinal, Female Cardinal, and a Male Downy Woodpecker.

December 27, 2015

My PC crashed four years ago and I could not access the photos and files that were on the hard drive.  I had purchased a widget/gizmo that claimed that I could hook it up to the hard drive and download to another computer.  Well, yesterday I hooked it up and tried to download from the old PC to my Macbook, to which I have an external hard drive attached.

"Worked like a charm."  Admittedly, I do have Microsoft Office for Mac installed, which allowed the copying of the Word files.  The photos were no problem.

Here are a few pictures from the old computer taken in 2007.

The first is from our room at the Cliff House, which is between Perkins Cove and Your Beach, Maine.

The next is of one of the tourist boats that embark from Perkins Cove and travel along the Maine coastline.

I desaturated all the colors except red.  There was little color in the photo other than the red.

The is Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse, Which was taken taken at a time.

Merry Christmas!

"...for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."   -- Luke 2:11.

December 20, 2015

These photos were taken in the early evening as we walked around one of the neighborhoods in Stravanger, Norway.  There is so much more to see when one is not on a schedule.

The first two pictures were on the same street.  They, obviously, did not have to contend with an HOA...Home Owners Association for those in the north.

This one of many side streets.  I enjoy them greatly, in that they make me think of life as it used to be.

Photobombed...

This is an actual Mini on the wall of an automobile dealer.

There is a story here.  I saw the compass in an area that I thought was a plaza.  After taking this picture, my family was laughing at me.  The compass was in the center of a traffic circle, round-about.  I did what was natural... I started to direct the traffic, what little there was.

December 13, 2015

Consider this a rerun...  not a duplicate.  Previous photos of this scene, that were published earlier, were done at that time but I came across these this morning, which are pictures taken in April of 2012 at Gibbs Garden, with the intention on creating an HDR picture.  The first picture is a result of combining the other three photos into one and making adjustments with photo processing software.

December 5, 2015

I was going through pictures on a back-up disk and came across this one.  I cannot remember which falls it is but I am sure that it was around Dillard, Ga or just across the state line in North Carolina.

Either way, it is a reminder to me to make sure that I do a better job of identifying where pictures are take.  I think that in the spring, I will re-visit some of the falls.  I came across one waterfall that had very little water flowing over it and remember seeing a picture when the water had greater volume.  Big difference.

December 1, 2015

This month's project is "The Holidays in Black and White."  I enjoy the challenges each month because it forces one to think and plan.  It gets one out of their easy mode, which for me is landscapes or stills.

These are examples of which I do not think will be submitted.  Pictures submitted are to be taken during the current month.

The first is a 'vintage' picture, which was taken two years ago.  It is a Christmas Tree made from lobster traps, located at Fox's Restaurant at Nubble Light in York Beach Maine.

The other pictures were taken in the foyer of our church.  The Manger has life-sized characters and I would venture that the tree is 14-16 feet tall.

Novemrber 24, 2015

A day early, but HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Linda and I went to St Joseph's Hospital at the I-285 perimeter Saturday evening so I could get a third 'Night Photo' to enter in the photo club that is in our sub-division.

The two building are known at 'The King and Queen' buildings, a/k/a The Westin Hotel.  I took them from a top level of the parking garage at the Women's Center.

The picture of the red and white lights are of the traffic at the intersection of I-285 and GA Route 400 at 7:00 pm.  this was to the feft of where I took the photos of the buildings.  The first picture is the one that I submitted, along with the others from earlier,

The Olympics are not what they used to be...  The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has added venues that seem less than less competitive and more entertaining.  This, probably, is due to wanting higher ratings on television.

The following pictures are from a new venue that will run in conjunction with Synchronized Swimming.  It is call Synchronized Flying, which in keeping with the IOCs penchant for PC and parity, the scale is tilted to the Canadians.

There are two classifications, Pairs and Ensemble.

The Pairs.

The Ensemble.

Only three pictures today, from some of my favorites.

November 13, 2015

Here are a few more pictures from the past.

Yes, the picture of the barn with snow was taken in Cumming, GA.

The tree growing up the chimney caught my eye as I drove by one day.  I went back a few days later to take the pictures.  The barn has since collapsed totally.

The next scene is on one of the ways that I use to go to and from work.  The sunflowers face the sun in the East in the morning and in the afternoon, they face the sun in the West.  I think that a spiritual lesson from the sunflowers would be "Follow the Son."

November 9, 2015

This month's photo project are photos taken in the evening, without any natural light.  I still have take a third photo.  I look forward to the assignments because it requires one to get out of their comfort zone.  Portraits would take me as far out of my comfort zone as I could go.

I may re-take the scene at an intersection, although I do like the 'light-stars.'  Although, there is only a slight difference, if you had to choose one of the photos of the Forsyth County Courthouse, which would you choose?
