It has been as as far back to the last Presidential Primary season as it it the the next one.  During the past Presidential Primary season, a candidate said that they would lower gas to $2 per gallon and was scoffed for this bold promise.

Do you remember who made the promise on August 18, 2011?

"Under President Bachmann you will see gasoline come down below $2 a gallon again," Bachmann told a crowd Tuesday in South Carolina. "That will happen."  Gas was at $3.50 per gallon at the time of the promise and ever rose from that point.

One of the nay-sayers was Time Magazine.  An article by Bryan Walsh, published the same day stated;
