Linda and I took a short trip to Thomaston, GA based on what we had read in a book for 'Day Trips in Georgia."  As The UPS driver said when asked about historical Thomaston, as noted in the book, "Thomaston does have history, but it does not have a 'historical district.'"

It does have a covered bridge about 12 miles out of town and it was enough to make the trip worthwhile.

A little history... It is 96 feet long with a town lattice truss. There is a parking and picnic area at the bridge. It was built in 1892 and rebuilt in 1997. The builder was W. Alford/Dr. J. Herring. It is over the Auchumpkee Creek in Upson County. Auchumpkee Creek Bridge also known as Zorn's Mill and Hootenville Bridge. This covered bridge was built in 1892 by W. Alford and Dr. J. Herring over the Auchumpkee Creek in Upson County. Picnic area and parking are available.
